While some Pet owners do know what has to be done to protect their Pets.
However, most don’t know the importance of the time frame things have to be done.
Certainly, your Pets depend on you to protect them, yes, there are things they can’t do.
It is up to you, there are things you have to take care of, before a storm .
Because most Pet owners basically have dogs or Cats, therefore this post will be about protecting them.
However, please don’t forget about any other pets or animals you may have; because they must be protected to.

It is important to realize, Pets are like family; because they love you. Certainly, to them you are their family.
Obviously, Pets trust you to protect them as they would protect you if they could.

There are steps that you must complete before a storm hits.
Because there will be no time once a storm is close.

Although you planed to stay at home this may change in a flash, always plan like you may evacuate.
For your family and Pets Safety you must plan like you have to evacuate even if you don’t.
- Check before a storm, for shelters that would be safe for your lovable pets.
- Prepare, check around, because many shelters do not take pets.
- Because of safety of all pets, shelters that do take pets, require all pets to have all their shots.
- You must also take with you their up-to-date records.
- In other words, make sure your Pets have paperwork showing all up to date shots and licenses all year.
- Because of severe weather, vets office may be closed, you may not be able to get Pets their shots. Emergency situations can happen at any time.
- Because pets can get separated and disorientated when hurricane conditions persist. It is best to have them Micro Chipped.
- That way, if found they can be tracked and returned to you and your family.
- Whenever, you must evacuate, remember you must allow extra time to get your pets to their shelter.
- You must also have enough time for you to get to your shelter before it’s full.
- Another thing to keep in mind, because of hazard conditions roads may flood or wash out.
- Besides trees or power lines may be down blocking roads, you must allow extra time.
Things Your Pet Needs to have available before a Hurricane.
Buy enough food and water for 2-3 weeks for the amount of Pets you have.

Many Pets go missing in major storms/Hurricanes
As many Pets in a hurricane get lost and never returned to their owners, take pictures of your Pets with the family as proof they are your pets.
When you get home with your pets, keep them in, if possible, for a while.
Because the area may look different, and the scents that your pet is familiar with, would have changed.
