Whirlpool Washer cleaning problem, it may have a bad agitator.

Working on Whirlpool Washer Model WTW4800XQ2

Unfortunately, because the washer does not have a see thru top

you may not be aware the agitator is bad.

While the washer may sound like it is washing the clothes.

However, when the agitator is bad it is not moving the water around.

When that happens, it is not washing or rinsing the clothes.

This problem is extremely easy to miss.

Matter of fact, you may not even know the washer has a problem.

Results you may experience

As a result of this problem, you not only have clothes that are still dirty.

You have clothes with soap and softener left in them because the washer is not rinsing.

If you are experiencing a rash, it may be from the chemicals left in the clothes.

Other search results

Researching Whirlpool Washer not cleaning online, places blame on other causes.

Common response to the problem is the detergent or the water level is not working correctly.

While these issues can cause problems with cleaning, they will not solve a bad agitator problem.

Your first check should be the agitator

It is not that hard to do and yes, I feel you could do it yourself.

I will give you an illustration here to help you.

I will also include a link later in the post

to my YouTube video showing how to check it.

While you are working on the agitator and are here anyway, check the dogs,

grab the very top and turn anti-clockwise (left) it should grab.

If they do not grab the dogs are bad or sticking. If they are grabbing, they are OK.

Checking the agitator, grab the very bottom blades and try to turn the agitator. It should not spin freely or skip on the shaft.

Because agitator is on a spline shaft it should be firm and only turn if the shaft is turning.

There are three sections to remove, continue for step-by-step instructions for removal.

Pull this cap up, it is covering dogs. (Do Not Remove the Dogs just the cap, unless they are bad).

Remove center 11mm bolt. Once you have removed bolt leave dogs in and pull this top unit up and off.

Keep up right so dogs do not fall out.

Last section #5 is the agitator. Pull from both sides upward, wiggle back and forth as you pull up.

This is the teeth inside the agitator, you can see they have melted from slipping on the shaft.

Check around before purchasing, prices are all over the place.

I saved $40.00+ dollars for an original part.
