Washing Machines and Floods
Washing Machines and Floods is about the many ways a washing machine can flood your home. It is a fact, Washing Machines are responsible for many in home floods, and there are quite a few causes. Of course, the most common cause, is from hoses bursting. Because this is a preventable problem, I will talk about it first. I will discuss the other problems latter in the post.
Washing Machines and Floods, Hoses
Washing machines and floods are more common now than ever before. Because now you have them inside the home. Which is why proper maintenance and inspections are so important. There are things you can do to reduce your risk of a flood. If you have washing machine hoses that are rubber, even if they are new. I recommend you replace them now with steel coated hoses. Don’t make the mistake and say, there new I still have a few years, then I will replace them. Because, in a few years you most likely won’t remember to change them. Replacing the hoses is a small price to pay compared to the water damages to your home.
Washing Machines and Floods, Solenoids
Solenoids are on the back of the washer, that’s what the hoses attach to. While there not as common of a problem like the hoses, they still have problems. Fortunately, they have some tell tale signs they are going bad. When you see dripping or leaking water into the washer and the washer is off. That’s a sign you need to change the solenoid. They are not that expensive and you can do it yourself. If you fail to change them, they could stick in the open position and flood the home.
Solenoids control water level in washer
Solenoids are also responsible for the water filling to the proper level in the washer. However, this problem is not related to the above solenoid issue. There are other systems controlling the solenoid. Depending on your washer type and age, it could be a control panel, pressure sensor or setting control or other reason. When the valve does not get a signal to close, shutting off the water, the tub could over fill flooding the home.
Washer top drum springs bad or missing
When the top drums springs are bad or missing the drum will bang a lot, especially on the spin cycle. When the tub has a lot of water and shifts from side to side because of weak springs it also will throw the water out.
Malfunctioning Washer
This problem I just solved and posted a video on my YouTube Channel there will be a link at the end of post.
Whirlpool Washer WTW4800XQ2
Washer had multiple issues but only one cause. The agitator would only spin in on direction, because of the one direction clothes became twisted and wrapped around the agitator. Washer would keep filling up over and over. When the washer water level was on high because of the spinning in one direction it would throw the water out on the floor. Online there are folks that said the have changed transmissions, control panels and a whole bunch of other things. However, it still did not fix the problem.

Here is the FIX
Original capacitor pictured below.

It has a bad capacitor, they cost from $9.99 to $65.00 dollars, I paid $22.00 for mine because its matched my part number. You can do the job yourself in under an hour. There is only one bolt to take out and put back. You don’t even have to disconnect the water hoses, just unplug the power cord. Tilt the unit back against the wall, recommend you put an old pillow between the wall and the washer.
As promised here is the link to the video, it will walk you through the process. Whirlpool Washer Twisting clothes FIXED
